Common Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Removing a tooth is a routine dental procedure, albeit one that’s only used as a last resort. Dr. Le may recommend an extraction if: You have an oral infection, and root canal therapy has failed to treat it. You broke a tooth due to physical trauma, and it can't be fixed with a crown or any other kind of restoration. You require orthodontic treatment, and certain teeth prevent necessary adjustments from being performed. You have a wisdom tooth that isn’t able to erupt correctly.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR TOOTH EXTRACTION?

At Whitewood Dental, we've performed tooth extraction procedures on a variety of patients. To maximize your comfort, we offer the best quality anesthetic ointment. When your mouth is entirely numb with anesthetics, the treatment begins. If you only need a basic tooth extraction, Dr. Le will use modern devices to loosen the ligament keeping your tooth in the socket. Then he'll gently pull the tooth using dental forceps. A complex tooth extraction is necessary if your wisdom tooth is not erupted. In this advanced procedure, Dr. Le will open the tissue surrounding the tooth. Then the tooth will be portioned into small parts with sanitized dental tools and pulled through this opening. Once the procedure is complete, and the tooth is pulled from your gums, the area is disinfected to prevent infections. Then the gum is sutured closed to ensure proper recovery.
